Bunny Gift
My friend Mary found a bunny ami that she liked and asked me to make one for her 3-year-old daughter, Evelyn. I used the picture she found as a jumping off point, and this is the result.
Meet Daisy. She’s about 7 inches tall in worsted weight yarn with a size D crochet hook. She wears a sleveless shift with collar and flower appliqué, matching tights and shoes. I resisted the addition of a pillbox hat, but she does hold a very big carrot. Lucky bunny!
Once I finished Daisy, I couldn’t resist trying the design again. This is Rose, her very fashionable friend. Rose wears a similar outfit, but has a matching purse and flower accent.
Daisy and Rose are one of the more detailed projects I’ve completed so far. I loved adding little embellishments like Rose’s bugle bead hardware on her purse and shoes, and seed beads in the center of her flower. Crocheting Daisy’s appliqué in thread was slightly less fun (!), but I like the results.
Since I first designed Daisy, I’ve found ways to improve the design and may release a pattern at some point. The design is not for the faint of heart; the arms and legs are very small and required a lot of patience to complete such tight rounds. The amount of detail also makes for more of an “intermediate” level project. My biggest challenge, however, was in embroidering the facial features. It’s a amazing how much care it takes to get symmetry and expressiveness. I feel like I have a lot to learn there.
I loved working up this design for Evelyn and hope she enjoys her new friend.
