Amigurumi Hair & Eyelash Yarns

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

My latest amigurumi project, the mermaid, features long hair combining microspun and eyelash yarns. Here’s how I achieved this look: I wanted the ends of the hair to look a bit tangled, so I chose Berrocco Comfort (yellow yarn in picture). Berrocco Comfort is a nylon/acrylic blend, and is similar to Lion Brand’s Microspun. Take [...]

August Ravely Swap: Sea Creatures

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Here’s my little mermaid. I made her for the Ravelry “$10 Amigurumi Swap” group’s August theme, “sea creatures.” I was feeling inspired by Ponyo, but I think she’s more of an ’80s gal. She’s all about the hair. Maybe Daryl Hannah in Splash?

I didn’t even realize I was included in an Etsy treasury, so it [...]

This is the first a new series of posts about design themes. Enjoy! Matryoshka dolls are those cute Russian nesting dolls that are both a traditional folk craft and a modern design theme. Allegedly inspired by a set of nesting figures from Japan (does everything cool come from Japan?!), a folk artist made the first [...]

Twitter Bird

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Here’s my little bluebird of happiness! He was inspired by my love of Twitter. I think I must tweet my every passing thought sometimes, lol. I tried some embroidery on him to highlight the nice shaping of his wings. I also am using some chenille-wrapped wire for feet.  I really like the contrast of the [...]
